Dear Friends and Neighbors,
We have reached a major milestone in the 2026 legislative session: the House of Origin cutoff. This is the deadline for House bills to pass out of our chamber and move over to the Senate for consideration. It has been an incredibly busy few weeks, especially the past week on the House floor, and I want to share some updates on the work I’ve been doing to represent your values in Olympia.

Defending Fairness and Parental Rights Recently, I stood on the House floor to fight for the thousands of Washingtonians who signed initiatives to protect fairness in girls’ sports and uphold parental rights. After the majority party rejected a motion for immediate committee hearings on these initiatives, I spoke out against their move to refer them to the House Education Committee. Leadership has already signaled these won’t get a fair hearing there. Our constituents deserve to have their voices heard on these critical issues, not silenced by procedural maneuvers.

Protecting Your Constitutional Rights. I also spoke out against legislation that I believe prices working people out of their constitutional rights. Whether it is our Second Amendment rights or our fundamental liberties, your ability to exercise those rights should not be determined by the size of your paycheck or new government-imposed costs. You can watch my floor comments on that bill.
Rep. Matt Marshall: This bill prices working people out of a constitutional right
Oversight and Accountability in Healthcare. During the debate on House Bill 2242, I raised the alarm regarding the amount of power being handed to the state Department of Health. This bill would allow the DOH to mandate vaccine insurance coverage based on “experts” it selects at its discretion, bypassing the normal rulemaking process. To be clear: this isn’t about banning vaccines. This is about oversight. We cannot allow a single agency to have concentrated authority without clear legislative guardrails and transparency.

Focusing on Education Outcomes. As a member of the House Education Committee, I am deeply concerned by our recent activity. We have spent time on bills like the “asthma drug bill” rather than focusing on the real crisis: improving academic outcomes for our students. Our children are falling behind, and the committee should prioritize policies that return to the basics of excellence in education.

The Fight for Affordability. The top priority for House Republicans this session is affordability. We know rising costs for housing, groceries, and energy are straining your family’s budget. We have proposed a suite of bills to drive these costs down, but unfortunately, most have been stalled by the majority.
Instead of relief, the majority party is moving bills that will worsen the affordability crisis and drive prices even higher. This includes the looming threat of new taxes and fees, including a state income tax. My colleagues and I are doing everything in our power to stop these bad bills. You can help us in this fight.
