Rep. Matt Marshall opposes bill to increase access to cross-sex hormone therapies for children

Rep. Matt Marshall, R-Eatonville, leads the opposition to House Bill 1971 during debate in the House Appropriations Committee. The bill increases access to prescription hormone therapies for patients of all ages, including for treatment such as gender-affirming care. Voicing his strong opposition to the bill, Marshall, a medical professional, cites multiple concerns, including the bill’s failure to ensure such therapies are only prescribed for genuine medical need and that the bill ignores parental rights, among other issues. Marshall argues, at a minimum, if such therapies are used in children, they should require parental consent.
