Rep. Matt Marshall argues against a bill some worry could lead to future vaccine mandates
Rep. Matt Marshall, R-Eatonville, calls for a no vote on House Bill 1531. The Democrat-proposed bill states, “state and local officials must, within available resources, implement and promote evidence-based, appropriate measures to control the spread of communicable diseases, including vaccines.” The bill also prohibits local governments from enacting their own ordinances to stop implementation of the law. Marshall and other Republicans on the House Health Care and Wellness Committee offered multiple amendments to create more oversight, protect freedom of choice in health care, and bolster public trust that were rejected by majority Democrats. The bill was passed out of committee on an 11-7 vote.
