Bill to help with Washington’s mental health crisis first from Rep. Matt Marshall to pass the House

On Thursday, Jan. 30, the House passed the first bill from freshman State Rep. Matt Marshall, R-Eatonville, unanimously.

House Bill 1190 expands access to the Health Evidence Resource for Washington State, known as HEAL-WA, to psychological associates and mental health counselor associates. HEAL-WA, provides eligible health care providers with online access to clinical information and education resources.

“As we are all aware, we have a mental health crisis here in the state of Washington,” said Marshall on the House floor. “This will be of zero cost to taxpayers. It’s a good bill and a small step toward addressing the mental health crisis.”

Supporters of the bill say HEAL-WA is an important tool for providers to access medical information, which can help close the gap in mental health care.

The bill now heads to the Senate.
