State Rep. Matt Marshall takes oath of office, announces committee assignments
On Monday, Jan. 13, Eatonville Republican Rep. Matt Marshall was officially sworn in to serve as state representative for the 2nd District alongside Sen. Jim McCune and Rep. Andrew Barkis.
Rep. Matt Marshall, R-Eatonville, officially took the oath of office during the opening ceremonies for the 2025 session on Monday.
“I am grateful to have been sent to Olympia by my friends and neighbors in the 2nd District,” said Marshall. “I am ready to get to work on education, health care, public safety, affordability, and the rest of the crises the people of my district and the state are facing.”
Marshall also announced his committee assignments for the 2025 session.
The 2nd District representative will serve on the House Education, Health Care and Wellness, and Appropriations Committees.
Marshall’s experience as a former elected school board member will help inform his work on the Education Committee, which takes up bills related to K-12 education in the state.
With more than dozen years as an orthopedic surgery physician assistant, Marshall will bring an experienced new voice to the Health Care and Wellness Committee. The committee considers a wide range of legislation related to physical and behavioral health care services, including licensing and regulations.
He will also serve on the House Appropriations Committee, which takes up bills related to the operating budget.
“I am excited to bring my expertise in these areas to help us shape a better future for our communities,” added Marshall. “I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues across the Legislature to fix the real problems the people of our state are struggling with and creating a unified Washington state.”
