Common sense vs. bureaucracy, Rep. Matt Marshall on the battle over student restraint laws

Rep. Matt Marshall offered amendments during floor debate on a bill addressing how schools respond to student behavior, aiming to protect vulnerable students and give educators flexibility in urgent situations. Drawing on his background in health care, he proposed requiring medical professionals be consulted on major care decisions and restoring teacher discretion to step in when critical medical equipment was at risk. Marshall said his approach was about safety, not expanding restraint, and ensuring students are not put at risk by inaction. Both amendments were rejected.

Rep. Matt Marshall says this bill prices working people out of a constitutional right

Rep. Matt Marshall, R-Eatonville, fights back against House Bill 2521 ahead of a vote in the House Appropriations Committee, warning the bill strips limits on firearm background check fees. Marshall says the bill hands bureaucrats a blank check, with no cap, no guardrails, and no protection for law-abiding citizens, especially lower-income Washingtonians already struggling with rising costs.

Drug pricing bill benefits affluent areas rather than those in need

Rep. Matt Marshall raised concerns about legislation to expand the federal 340B drug discount program, warning it is growing rapidly without enough accountability. He said the program was intended to help underserved patients and support rural providers, but too often the financial benefits are concentrated in large health systems, with no clear requirement that savings reach those in need. Marshall pointed to research suggesting the program can drive up overall health care costs, with patients and taxpayers footing the bill. He argued that before expanding the program, lawmakers should ensure it is transparent, accountable, and truly serving the people it was designed to help.

‘A dark day for Washington state’ – Marshall on passage of Democrats’ income tax

Rep. Matt Marshall pushed back during the nearly 25-hour debate on the majority party’s income tax, offering a series of amendments aimed at limiting its reach and protecting middle-class families. Alongside fellow Republicans, he worked to narrow the impact of the proposal and prevent it from expanding beyond its stated scope. Dozens of those amendments were rejected. Marshall said the effort was about drawing clear lines and standing up for families who could be hit next if the tax grows over time.
